Destination URL

Campaign parameters

Where the click comes from: newsletter, linkedin, a partner's name.

The channel type: email, social, cpc, referral.

The campaign name, used to group every link from one push.

Optional. The paid keyword this link targets.

Optional. Distinguishes two links in the same campaign, such as button or footer.

How it works

  1. Paste the destination URL, with or without the https prefix.
  2. Fill source, medium, and campaign; term and content are optional.
  3. Values are trimmed, lowercased, and spaced words become underscores, so campaigns do not split by case.
  4. Existing query parameters are kept, and the finished link is ready to copy.

A naming convention to copy

Source names the place (newsletter, linkedin, partner name). Medium names the channel (email, social, cpc). Keep a written list of allowed values; the value of analytics is grouping, and one stray spelling breaks the group. Campaign carries the push name, and content distinguishes two links in the same push, such as header-button against footer-link.

Never tag links between your own pages: the tag overwrites the original source and makes internal traffic look like a campaign. For outreach copy to go with the link, see the cadence calculator and the template library.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between source and medium?

Source is the specific place the click comes from (newsletter, linkedin, partner name). Medium is the channel type (email, social, cpc). Keeping the pair consistent is what lets analytics group campaigns correctly.

Should UTM values be lowercase?

Yes. Analytics tools treat Campaign and campaign as different values, so mixing case fragments one campaign into several rows. This builder lowercases values for you.

Do UTMs affect SEO?

No. Tagged links are for analytics and do not change ranking. Avoid tagging internal links, because that overwrites the original source of your traffic.
