Campaign totals
Reply rate
3.50%
At the average. Average 3.43%, top quartile 5.5%, elite above 10%.
Bounce rate
2.00%
Strong. Top senders stay under 2%.
Spam complaint rate
0.100%
At the ceiling. Stay under 0.3%, ideally under 0.1%.
Open rate
45.00%
Directional only: Apple Mail Privacy Protection preloads images, so tracked opens overstate real reads.
Reading the result
Judge the campaign by replies and meetings, not opens. A reply rate below 3.43% usually means the list, the offer, or the subject needs work; a bounce rate above 2% means the list needs cleaning before the next send.
Calculations use the totals you entered. Rates are per email sent and are rounded; complaint rate is shown to three decimals because the thresholds are small.
How it works
- Enter the campaign totals: sent, tracked opens, replies, bounces, and complaints.
- Each rate is computed from your numbers and graded against a published benchmark.
- Reply, bounce, and complaint rates carry a verdict; open rate is shown as directional only.
- Change any total to see how one campaign compares with the next.
Why open rates are directional only
Apple Mail Privacy Protection preloads images, which fires the tracking pixel whether or not anyone read the message, and corporate filters often do the same. Opens still trend in the right direction across a campaign, but replies, meetings, and positive responses are the metrics worth judging.

- Bounce rate: Cold email bounces average around 7 to 8 percent; top performers stay under 2 percent. Source: Instantly cold email benchmarks.
- Complaint rate: Keep spam complaints under 0.3 percent, and ideally under 0.1 percent. Source: Google Email sender guidelines.
- Open-rate caveat: Preloaded images fire tracking pixels whether or not the message was read, so open rates are inflated. Source: Apple Mail Privacy Protection.
Reading the numbers
If replies are near the average but meetings are not, the offer or the ask needs work; if bounces are high, fix the list with the duplicate email cleaner. To test two subject lines fairly, use the A/B significance calculator, then project the upside with the ROI calculator.
Frequently asked questions
What is a good cold email reply rate?
Instantly's 2026 benchmark report puts the platform-wide average at 3.43 percent, the top quartile at 5.5 percent, and elite campaigns above 10 percent. Above 5 percent is generally considered solid.
Why are open rates unreliable?
Apple Mail Privacy Protection preloads images, which fires the tracking pixel whether or not a person read the message. Many corporate filters do the same. Treat opens as directional and judge results by replies, meetings, and positive responses.
What bounce rate is acceptable?
Cold email bounces average roughly 7 to 8 percent, but top performers keep it under 2 percent. A high bounce rate usually means an unverified list, and it damages sender reputation.
